James "Jim" Bowling, Sr. Obituary

James “Jim” Michael Bowling, Sr., age 72, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, with his family at his bedside after an extended illness.

 

He was born September 16, 1949, in Antigo, Wisconsin, a son of the late Wallace Bowling and Nola Stamper Bowling.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Bowling, and two sisters, Barbie Trent and Mabel Ratliff.

 

Jim is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Jean Smith of Morehead; three sons, James “Buddy” Michael Bowling, Jr. of Woodruff, South Carolina, Steven Michael Bowling of Morehead, Nathan Michael Bowling (wife Sabrina) of Morehead; two daughters, Brandi Nicole Bowling Brooks (and husband Eric) of Louisville and Tiphanie Rochell Bowling of Morehead; ten grandchildren, James Michael Bowling, III, Hannah Dushay Bowling, Steven James Bowling,  Max Riley Stucky, Aspen Elise Stucky, Bodhi Thames Bowling Brooks, Autumn Jade Bowling, Lauren Isabelle Deatley, Oliver Clark Deatley, Tymber Joevelyn Bowling; and a host of great grandchildren. 

 

Other survivors include two brothers, Wallace Bowling of Camden, Ohio, and Edgar Bowling of Walton, KY; five sisters, Cleo Church of Morehead,  Della Maddix of Elton, Wisconsin, Darlene Jamieson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Suzie Bowling of Morehead, and Martha Bowling of Morehead, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends.

 

Jim retired in 1996 from Morehead State University after working 28 years as a custodian.  Mr. Bowling enjoyed the outdoors and was a longtime member of the Trophy Hunters Archery Club.  He spent his time in retirement enjoying the outdoors, hiking, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.  He loved a good cookout, hunting mushrooms, and shooting guns with his sons and daughters.  He was an expert at shooting the longbow and enjoyed flint knapping with his best friends Sam and Larry.  He was so loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. 

 

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel.

 

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
