James Arlie DeHart Obituary

On Sunday, October 4, 2020, James Arlie DeHart passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his bedside in San Dimas, CA.

Arlie was born in 1936 at his parents' home in the rural area of Morehead, Kentucky.  Arlie was the son of the late Ottis Lee DeHart and Vada Moore DeHart.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cletis, Clella Ray, Ival, and Larry, and his three sisters, May, Reba, and Edna.

Arlie met his soulmate, Linda, while they were small kids running around in the countryside of Morehead. As a teenager, Arlie moved to Indiana for work and reunited with Linda again in Yorktown. They dated for a while and in a few years they were married. After having their first child, Arlie and Linda moved to California in 1963 where they later had their second son.

Arlie was married to Linda for 60 wonderful years and they raised two successful sons, James and Gerald. Surviving Arlie besides his wife and two sons are their wives, Laurie and Jeanette; four grandsons: Bradley, Justin, Dillon, Jason; and one granddaughter, Jennifer; one great-granddaughter, Sophie; and one great-grandson, Luke.

Arlie was a devoted family man who placed the welfare of his loved ones above all else. Arlie can be described as a "hard working man" who sacrificed everything to provide for his family. When Arlie wasn't working, he could be found fixing something around the house or helping his son repair a vehicle. Arlie was a jack-of-all trades and could fix nearly anything.

Arlie was a professional arborist for 38 years and was employed by several companies such as Rogers Tree Service, C.F. Braun Engineering Company, and finally retired from the horse racing capital of the west coast, The Santa Anita Park Race Track. Once retired, Arlie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and resting in his La-Z-Boy chair. Arlie was also an avid gardener and took pride in landscaping his own yard, where he once earned a city award for the best landscaped yard.
