James Everett Cooper, age 81, of Sunset Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born August 20, 1938, in Flat Lick, Kentucky, and was a son of the late Malcolm and Mary Gray Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Elaine Caudill Cogar Cooper on May 5, 2019; one brother, Charles Cooper; and two grandchildren, James Paul Cooper and Jeremy Michael White.
Mr. Cooper is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Kay Cooper of Euless, Texas, and Jimmie Beth White of Vienna, Ohio; three step daughters, Mona Lisa Damron of Wyandotte, Michigan, Angela L.(Jim) Carr of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Sandra (Orlando) Ortiz of Melvindale, Michigan; one step son, Alan (Angie) Cogar of Morehead; four grandchildren, Christopher (Misty) Cooper, Heather (Bill) Hutch, Jessica (Osa) Johnson and Spencer (Adam) Cooper; three great grandchildren, Seth Balas, Cullan Cooper, and Aiden Cooper; 10 step grandchildren, Jason Ortiz, Jesse Ortiz, Timothy Delong, Candace Marsee, Robert Haney, Crystal Carr, Raymond Carr, David Cisco, Justin Cogar, and Casandra Cogar three siblings, Geraldine Honeycutt of Greenville, Ohio, Robert (Virginia) Cooper of Bronston, Kentucky, and Ann(Junior) Harmon of Himyar, Kentucky, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
James was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, as a tool and die supervisor. He was a 50-year Mason, a member of Ewing 581 Favorite Lodge, Ewing, Kentucky, and a member of The Scottish Rite. In 1998, he was named Master of the Year. James enjoyed golfing, watching college basketball, hunting, and shooting. He also enjoyed cooking, woodworking, tinkering in his garage and traveling. James was a member of Johnson First Church of God in Grange City.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Pastor Lee Jent and Pastor Butch Kelsey officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery with full military honors by Flemingsburg Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 and American Legion Post No. 5.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2020, at Hutton Funeral Home. At 7 p.m. Monday, Masonic rites will be presented by Ewing 581 Favorite Lodge, Ewing, KY
