Obituary

Jackie Donald Sorrell, age 85, of Main Street, Owingsville, died Monday morning, November 16, 2020, at the home of his daughter, Lisa Rogers.

 

Born October 15, 1935, in Bath County, he was the son of Walter Jackson Sorrell and Katherine Lucille Pieratt Sorrell.  Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ford Douglas Sorrell; and three sons: Gregory Douglas Sorrell, Geoffrey Pierce Sorrell, and Kevin Guy Sorrell.

 

He is survived by seven children:  Randy Sorrell and wife Louise of Richmond, Donnie Sorrell and wife Linda of Alexandria, Phil Sorrell and wife Brenda, of Owingsville,  Gary Alan Sorrell (widower of  Brenda) of Jeffersonville, Glen Sorrell and wife Lisa of Morehead, Lisa Gay Sorrell Rogers and husband Earl of Owingsville; Karen Gail Sorrell Ratliff and husband Bobby of Owingsville.

 

Grandchildren:  Janet Marie Sorrell, Beverly Flora Sorrell, Ryan MacKenzie Sorrell, Jessica Dawn Sorrell, Geoffrey Douglas Sorrell (Jennifer), Glynn Tayler Rogers, Tyler Pierce Rogers, Peyton Clay Rogers, James Robert Ratliff, III, “Trey”, and William Martin Ratliff, “Will”, Jordyn Simpson (Sam), Brian Sorrell (Molly), Kerry Howe (Alan), Jennifer Kirst (Geff), Brad Sorrell, Philip Ryan Sorrell (Amanda), Matthew Sorrell (Megan).

 

Great grandchildren:  Tanner Joseph Sorrell (Macey), Morgan Blayke Wilson (Kevin), Griffin Sorrell, Cailen Vice, Gannon Sorrell, Asher Sorrell, Sawyer Simpson, Hudson Simpson, Aubrey Sorrell, Gabby Sorrell, Helen Howe, Emily Kirst, Natalie Kirst, Nathan Kirst, Elliott Sorrell, Gram Sorrell, Hunter McCoy, Hannah McCoy, Taylan Sorrell, Ava Sorrell, and Hadlee Sorrell.

 

He is also survived by two brothers:  Perry Sorrell and wife Kathy of Greenfield, Indiana, and Robert “Bobby” Clark Sorrell and wife Mary Gene of Paris, Tennessee.

 

Jackie was self-employed for many years as S&H Excavating.  He worked hard, enjoyed operating heavy equipment, and had a reputation for doing excellent work.  Jackie also greatly enjoyed riding motorcycles and the challenge of working on old trucks and cars.
