Ivan Reynolds, Jr. Obituary

Ivan Lee Reynolds, Jr., of Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away peacefully April 30, 2023. He was 93.

He was born February 25, 1930, to the late Ivan L. Reynolds and Hazel Jones Reynolds in Farmers, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Reynolds Burns, and a stepmother, Wrella Reynolds.  Ivan married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Hamm, on June 10, 1950.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 – 1956. During this time daughters Terry Sue and Donna Gay were born and after discharge the family settled in Clearfield, Kentucky, eventually surrounded by a host of close family.

Ivan worked as a heavy equipment operator and member of the Union of Operating Engineers and contributed to infrastructure projects throughout Kentucky, including I-64, and most proudly on the construction of Cave Run Dam. He was also a founding member of the Rowan County Rescue Squad.

After retirement, Ivan divided his time between RV travel and woodworking and shared the joy he took in his pastimes with his family, friends, and many others he met along the way. (All spent time covered in sawdust or sleeping on a camper floor.)  He shared his greatest joy with family: his wife Virginia; daughters Terry Reynolds and Donna Grey (Len); and his grandsons Drew (Amy), Ryan (Amanda), and William (Monica). Over the last decade, he doted on his great grandchildren and continued a search for the perfect steak dinner. The great grandchildren are growing in number and remain flawless; the steaks always leave room for improvement.

Ivan shared his life and laughter with family and friends, in particular his much-loved nephews, including Dale Carpenter, John P. Hamm, and Rob Hamm. He enjoyed creating and sharing innumerable trivets, cutting boards, and jewelry boxes but his most visible project was a contribution to his church family, crafting the cross in the baptistery at Johnson First Church of God. His warmth, laughter, and generosity will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Furman and Rev. Mark Poston officiating. For those who prefer to participate virtually, the service will be live streamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

Pallbearers will be Dale Carpenter, John Paul Hamm, Robert Gene Hamm, Drew Grey, Ryan Grey, and Will Grey.
