Gilbert Ray Kinder, age 87, a well-known businessman, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022, in Flemingsburg after a brief illness.
Born January 2, 1935, in Rowan County, Gilbert was a son of the late Elmer R. Kinder and Myrle Hogge Kinder. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Shirley Johnson Kinder; three brothers, Elmer R. Kinder, Jr., Paul Kinder, and Denver D. Kinder; and one sister, Jane Curtis.
He is survived by a son and daughter, Tony Kinder and Tammy Kinder, both of Flemingsburg; four grandchildren, Derrick (Amanda) Kinder, Kristen (Simon) Jackson, Garrett Kinder, and Ian (Makenzie) Kinder; and four great grandchildren, Colbert “Bear” and Camilla Kinder, and Elizabeth and Caleb Jackson.
Other survivors include several nieces and nephews; special friend, Ruth Kiser; extended family members; and many friends.
Gilbert was a proud veteran and served his country from 1957 to 1959 in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where he was trained in surveillance and reconnaissance.
After returning to Kentucky, he owned and operated Kinder Furniture and Appliances for many years, with locations in Rowan and Fleming County. From the late 1980’s until recently, he operated Gilbert’s Auto Sales in Flemingsburg.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church, where he attended regularly. Gilbert loved his family, especially the grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jack Hinton and the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers: Derrick Kinder, Garrett Kinder, Ian Kinder, Michael Kinder, Mark Caldwell, and Steve Armstrong.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
