George Cecil Harris, age 84, of Turkey Creek Lane, Winchester, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born September 29, 1941, in Paintsville, he was a son of the late Oscar Warren Harris and Carrie Virginia Cecil Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lillian Charles Harris, on January 14, 2014; one brother, Tim Harris; his two best friends, Jeff Robbins and Teddy Hughes; and his beloved Yorkie, “Peaches.”
George is survived by one son, George Harris II (Kathy) of Lexington; one grandson, George “Chip” Harris III (Stephanie) of Winchester; three granddaughters, Tonya Trent (Chris) of Mt. Sterling, Chasaty Harris (Matthew) of Georgia, and Tammy Harris of Lexington; 12 great-grandchildren, Madison Stamper, Chase Trent, Collin Trent, Rylee Trent, Malory Abbott, Brooklyn Harris, Alison Harris, Warren Harris, Lucas Masterson, Joshua Smith, Cameron Smith, and Wyatt Smith; 12 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews and other extended family, church family, and friends.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 and continued in the Reserves until 1966. George retired from the United States Postal Service after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of Spring Street Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, where he served as a deacon.
He was also a member of Mount Sterling Masonic Lodge No. 23 for 51 years and a member of Oleika Shrine Club in Lexington. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, at Winchester Community Church, 123 Franklin Avenue, Winchester, KY 40391. Masonic rites will be conducted prior to the service by Masonic Lodge No. 23.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026, at the church with Pastor Jackie Stamper officiating. Burial will follow in Clarmont Memorial Gardens in Winchester with full military honors at the graveside.
Pallbearers will be Jacob “JR” Stamper, Chris Pesut, Collin Trent, Chase Trent, Lucas Masterson, Joshua Smith, Derek Maschino, and Brandson Stamper. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his caregivers at Cottage 201.
