Genevieve "GG" (Messer) Adkins

Genevieve “GG” Messer Adkins, age 82, of Haldeman Heights, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 21, 1939, in Rowan County to the late Alex Lee Messer and Geneva Mabry Messer.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Messer; a special nephew, Mark Messer; a sister-in-law, Oveda Messer; and a brother-in-law, Robert Preston.

Her husband of 57 years, Elder Zora Jefferson Adkins, whom she married August 13, 1960, preceded her in death on February 14, 2017.

Mrs. Adkins is survived by one son, Jeff Adkins (Amanda); one daughter, Jamie Adkins (Michael Bowman), all of Morehead; five grandchildren, Shayla Adkins (Jordan), Khi Adkins (Jayla), Sean Bowman (Jazzy), Devany Harrison (Ezra), and Ethan Mays; and one great granddaughter, Aspyn Bowman.

She also leaves behind one sister, Vonda Preston; two brothers, Claude Messer and Gary Messer (Joyce); two sisters-in-law, Gail Messer and Barb Young (Steve); and special aunt, Carol White (Eddie), all of Morehead; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was a homemaker and was a former supervisor for the Morehead News. A Christian since 1977, she was a member of Hayes Branch United Baptist Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting dolls; taking trips to Walmart with her sister, and especially looked forward to Sunday dinners with family.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Austin Knipp and Elder Lewis Baier officiating.  Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Khi Adkins, Alex Messer, Brad Messer, Ethan Mays, Jordan Wilson, and Jeff Jones.  Honorary Pallbearers:  Sean Bowman, Neil Messer, Zachary Messer, Jacob Messer, Joel Rochet, and Duane Adkins.

Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351
