Gaynes Law Obituary

Gaynes C. Law, age 85, of Morgan Fork Road, Morehead, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at his son’s home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 31, 1940, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Gillard L. Law and Elma Florence Perry Law. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Law; a son, David Mark Law; one brother, Edward “Buck” Law; and three sisters and brothers-in-law: Janice and Abe Manley, Alberta and Don Brewer, and Leora Margaret and J. P. McKenzie.

Gaynes is survived by one son, Donald Ray Law and wife Debbie of Salt Lick; seven grandchildren: Joshua, Jason, Larae, Bria, Cynthia, Perry Rae, and Rebecca; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with one more expected in May; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was known far and wide for his love of cooking. Gaynes worked for many years as a cook in several restaurants, and people came from near and far because they knew if he prepared it, it would be good. He was also the owner and operator of Law’s Mobile Home Park for many years. He looked out for everyone who lived there and loved them like family.

Gaynes had a gift for loving people, and people loved him in return. He was a member of Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God until his health would no longer allow. Even then, he kept up with all the comings and goings of the church and community.

He loved the Lord, telling stories from his past, talking on the phone, and listening to old rock and roll—especially Bob Seger. Most of all, Gaynes adored all of his grandchildren and treasured every moment with “Papaw’s baby,” Becklan, as he fondly called him.

Gaynes had a good heart and will be deeply loved and greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Roy Lands officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
