Gary Gene Smith, age 69, of Red Bird Drive, Clay City, formerly of Morehead, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Born May 2, 1953, in Morehead, he was a son of the late John Ed Smith, Sr. and Juanita Stewart Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Smith.
Gary Gene is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Hall Smith, whom he married January 2, 1976; one son, Matthew Smith and wife Momo of Lexington; two daughters, Victora Carman and husband Ronnie of Louisville, and Rebecca Smith of Mt. Sterling; and four grandchildren, Mason Cooper, Marcus Cooper, Upham Smith, and Misha Ryan Smith.
Other survivors include one brother, Jim Smith of Morehead; two half-sisters, Patty Rohloff and Kathy Smith, both of Mondovi, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
Gary Gene was a retired quality technician engineer for Parker Hannifin Corporation in Lexington and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He received his Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences from Morehead State University with honors.
He enjoyed working with electronics, studying the Bible, sharing the Bible with others, camping, cooking, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Dawson Cemetery on Open Fork Road with Brother Bill Daily officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
At Gary Gene’s request, there will be no visitation.
