Fred Carl Jackson

Fred Carl Jackson, age 80, of Big Woods Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born December 20, 1941, at Plummers Landing in Fleming County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Lynden and Thelma Stidom Jackson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Jackson and Sam Jackson. 

Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karan Cartledge Jackson, whom he married September 21, 1967; one son, Marc D. Jackson and fiancée Wanda L. Chapman of Wallingford, Kentucky; one daughter, Melinda Moore and husband Philip of Lexington, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Amanda Ball, Gabrielle Rice, Alexandra Jackson, and Logan Rice.

Other survivors include one brother, Bob Jackson of Wallingford, Kentucky; three sisters, Carol Harris (Richard) of Sidney, Ohio, Ann Page (Ken) of Dayton, Ohio, and Connie Fisk of Dayton, Ohio, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Fred served two tours in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, from 1962-64 and again from 1964-68. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. His assignment included the commissioning of the USS America.  Fred continued his patriotic service as a member of Morehead American Legion Post 126 for more than twenty years and during that time was also a member of the Honor Guard.

Fred enjoyed gardening, storytelling, spending time with family--especially the small children—and friends. The camaraderie and friendship with Legion members was a special part of his life. He will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.  At 1 p.m., military honors will be conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126 at the funeral home with Chaplain Rufus Williams and Honor Guard Commander Ronnie Brooks.
