Forest Tackett Obituary

Forest Dale Tackett, age 87, of Forest Hills Drive, Morehead, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

 

Born February 28, 1933, in Virgie, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Allard and Cordelia Hampton Tackett.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Juble Tackett, and two sisters, Irene Goble and Dr. Lola Doane Tackett. 

 

Forest is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Ilene Pecco Tackett, whom he married November 20, 1959, and one daughter, Dr. Angela Kay Tackett of Morehead. 

 

Other survivors include one nephew, John Benton Tackett (Linda)  of Pikeville, Kentucky; three nieces, Marchetta Blackburn of Pikeville, Kentucky, Jenny Upton (Charles) and Mary Anne Olsen (Craig), both of Lexington, Kentucky, as well as the Pecco family who have loved Forest for more than 60 years, other dear relatives, and many friends.   

 

Forest graduated from Virgie High School and attended Pikeville College for two years.  He spent two years in the U.S. Army and following his return attended Morehead State University where he received B.A. and M.A. degrees. 

 

He began his teaching career in Pike County serving as a teacher and assistant principal at Belfrey High School, principal at Hardy Elementary, Turkey Creek Elementary, and Belfry High School. 

 

Forest and his family moved to Fleming County in 1977 where he served as a teacher at Simons Middle School.  Later he served as principal of Hillsboro Elementary School until his retirement in 1988.   After retiring, he served on the Fleming County Board of Education for one term. 

 

Forest served as Pastor of the Ringos Mills Christian Church for many years.  He and his family have attended that church for the last 43 years.

 

Forest was a Christian in every area of his life and a devoted husband, father, friend and servant of Christ.

 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ernie Robinson and Dr. Rick Hackney officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

 

Pallbearers:  Nathan Pecco, Nicholas Pecco, Rusty Tackett, Wayne Hancock, John Benton Tackett, and Ricky Netherly.  Honorary Pallbearers: Tom Pecco, Craig Olsen, Kevin Cummins, Tony Pecco, William DeBord, and Ricky Smoot.

 

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
