Amanda Faye Lewis Callahan, 81, of Morehead, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center with family by her side.
Faye was born on January 2, 1939, in Rowan County, KY, the oldest daughter of the late Talmadge Ray and Jeanie D. Coffey Lewis. She was a devoted wife of the late Francis Marion Callahan for 43 years until his passing on August 17, 2011.
She is survived by her son, Joey Callahan, and his wife Christi of Elizaville, KY, and son Kyle Callahan of Morehead, KY; three grandchildren: Zachary Ryan Callahan, Abigail Grace Callahan and Sarah Jo Callahan; sisters Anna Mae Lewis (Marion) of Dry Creek, KY, Marcella Bradford of Shepherdsville, KY, and Marie Wisecup (Rick) of Fairborn, OH; brothers Perry Roger Lewis of Shelby, OH, Carl Edward Lewis (Sue) of Kearnersville, NC, Talmadge Ray Lewis, Jr. (Debbie) of Georgetown, OH, and David Austin Lewis (Joyce) of Dry Creek, KY; a brother-in-law, Jack Perry of Flatgap, KY; and many nieces and nephews, including very special niece Patty Lewis. She also leaves behind many dear friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Faye was preceded in death by her sister Lenora Beulah Lewis; brothers Richard Enoch Lewis, Raymond Clinton Lewis, Herbert Ray Lewis, Delbert Otis Lewis and Calvin McKee “Mickey” Lewis; father-in-law Willis Green Callahan; mother-in-law Mamie Collins Callahan; sisters-in-law Ardell Darlington Lewis, Lillian Reynolds Lewis, Irene Kidd Lewis, Geraldine Perry Brown and Patricia Callahan Dearinger; brothers-in-law Delbert Lee Callahan, Billy Richard Callahan, Garland Gene Perry, Edward Dale Callahan and Darrel Brent Callahan.
On March 15, 1968, she married the love of her life. She and Francis enjoyed sitting on their front porch drinking coffee and watching the traffic drive by. They also enjoyed visits with their family and friends. Faye would always get up in the wee hours of the morning to make sure Francis had a cup of coffee waiting on him and a good lunch ready to go in his dinner bucket.
Faye attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Morehead. She also attended services at other churches, and especially enjoyed good church singing. During her recent hospital stays, the nurses would say that she sang hymns throughout the night, continuing to be a Christian witness to others.
She had an uncanny ability to find four-leaf clovers. Faye would often walk over an area that had already been searched by others only to find two or three that had been overlooked. She also loved to rock—wearing out many rocking chairs along the way. She enjoyed UK Basketball and would try to catch every game—even the ones that went past her bedtime.
Most importantly, Faye was a person who worked hard behind the scenes to do what she could to make her family better and stronger. She never wanted praise or attention—she just did what she could to see that others realized the potential that she saw they had. Many have benefitted from the life lessons she shared and exemplified. She truly was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and aunt.
