Emery Allen Purnell

Emery Allen Purnell, age 73, of CCC Trail, Morehead, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born February 5, 1947, in Elliottville, he was a son of the late Bert and Cora Lee Fraley Purnell.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Emil Purnell, James Arthur “Jimmy” Purnell, Junior Purnell, and Elmo Stigall, and one sister, Barbara Sue Purnell Owens.

Emery is survived by one daughter, Gina Purnell (James Deitriech) of Elliottville; three grandchildren, Erika Stokley, Dakota Prince, and Leanna Slone; five great grandchildren, Cora, Preston, Lorelei, Ryker, and Remi; one sister, Lois Purnell Smoak of Charlotte, North Carolina; his girlfriend, Carol Ginter of Owingsville; a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.

Emery was frequently and well-known referred to as “Half Pint”. Retiring in 2012, Emery was a truck driver for Olive Hill Trucking Company. He enjoyed dancing, Bluegrass music, and spending time with his family and friends.  

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jesse Hickerson officiating. For those who want to participate in the service virtually, the service will be live streamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 2 p.m.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all contributions be made payable to Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, P.O. Box 388, Morehead, KY 40351 to assist with funeral expenses.

COVID-19 regulations as set forth by the state will be observed.
