Emerson Howard

Emerson Howard, age 81, of Evergreen Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his residence.

Born May 31, 1941, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary Ava Conley Howard.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Violet Daroci, Carolyn Sue Blaire, and infants Lillian, Margaret, and Sharon Howard, and four brothers, Emil, Marvin, and Clifton Howard and infant Lee Howard.

Emerson is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley K. Stafford Howard, whom he married April 16, 1988; one daughter, Valentina Lester of Taylor, Michigan; one son, David Butler of Morehead; one step daughter, Patricia Kelly of Grayson; and numerous grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Vivian Ross of Michigan and Florene Whitt of Morehead; two brothers, Carl and Melvin Howard, all of Morehead; as well as nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. 

Emerson was the owner of H&H Roofing and Remodeling. He enjoyed 4-wheeling on his farm, cutting hay, hunting deer and turkey, and cutting is his wood “the old fashion way.” Most of all, he loved spending time with Shirley, his family, and dog "Rosie." He will be remembered with love and greatly missed. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Brad Winkleman officiating. Burial will follow in Dawson Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Jonathan Davis, Joseph Howard, Michael Huffman, John R. Stamper, Eric Winkleman, and Roger Whitt.  Honorary pallbearers:  Melvin Howard and Carl R. Howard.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
