Elizabeth "Liz" Cox Obituary

Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Hayes Cox, age 89, of Morehead, formerly of Charley, Kentucky, passed away November 29, 2022, at her home.

 

Liz was born December 2, 1932, at Charley, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Basil Hayes and Delphia (Meade) Hayes Gamble.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, James M. New and Ray Cox; one son, Capt. Jerry New; and two brothers, Robert Hayes and Basil Hayes, Jr.

 

Survivors include one sister, Doris (Burt) Hayes of Louisa; one daughter, Kathy (Carrie) Frazier of Morehead; three grandchildren, Joshua Pack, Alexander New, and Ace Pack; and special friends, Miranda Shavers, Abby Caines, Jessy Roberts, and Colin Sparks, all of Morehead. 

 

Liz owned and operated Cox’s Grocery in Charley for a number of years. She never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

 

A celebration of life will be held for the family at a later date.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
