Elbert Bell Cox, age 90, of Maxey Flat Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home.
Born November 2, 1934, on Maxey Flat, Hillsboro, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Walter G. and Louada Parish Cox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 10 siblings.
His beloved wife of 63 years, Lula Beatrice “Bea” Gregory Cox, passed away on February 6, 2017.
Elbert is survived by three sons, David Cox (Suzanne), Paul Cox (Denise), and James Cox (Michelle), all of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Miranda Rowe, Julie Cox, Matthew and Steven Cox, all of Hillsboro; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.
Elbert was a lifelong resident of Maxey Flat and was well known for his dairy farm, raising cattle, logging, and raising tobacco. Elbert loved working and in addition to his many jobs outside, he and his wife Bea owned and operated Cox Grocery on Maxey Flat for a number of years. When time permitted, Elbert would coon and fox hunt with “Uncle Bill Compton” and on occasion watch wrestling on television. He loved company and socializing with friends and especially his family. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Willie Skaggs, Jr. and Brother Herbert D. Lewis officiating.
Burial will follow in Little Mary Cemetery with Matthew Cox, Taylor Cox, Steven Cox, Johnny Cox, Roger Cox, Chris Rowe, and Noah McKenzie serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Willis Turner, David Syck, Willie Gregory, Parker Cox, and Dylan Cox.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
