Eddie Jay Horton

Eddie Jay Horton, age 74, of Gilliam Cemetery Road, Olive Hill, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born September 13, 1946, in Danville, he was the son of the late Wallace and Lucy Stevens Horton. 

Eddie is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Kathy Ratcliff Horton; two sons, Eugene McCarty and Seth Horton, both of Morehead; two daughters, Lorrie Riggsby of Morehead and Sara Horton Bond of Shelbyville; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He also leaves behind five brothers and sisters, Eugene, Hester, Gracie, Lena and his twin brother, Ray, and the Ratcliff family whom he considered his own.  Eddie gratefully and humbly received the gift of life in the form of an anonymous organ donation in 2016 that enabled him to spend more cherished time with his family and friends. 

Eddie served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was an employee of Harold White Lumber Company for 18 years. Eddie loved his family with all his heart.  He also loved the arts and was a talented sculptor, painter and carpenter.  He used those talents in restoring and building his family’s log cabin.  He said he always wanted a good wife and a cabin on the hill and was thankful for both, as well as the wonderful life and family he enjoyed.  Eddie was also the best friend you could ever have.  He will be missed so very much.

A celebration of Eddie’s life will be planned at a later date.
