Earl Wayne “Butch” Wagers, age 64, of Old Midland Trail, Salt Lick, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at U.K. St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born March 3, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late John Beard and Ida Gaye Wagers Brock.
Butch is survived by two daughters: Christy Lee Wagers Farris and husband Ken of Lexington and Paige Wagers and husband Adam Odem of Salt Lick; the mother of Paige and stepmother of Christy: Frances Wagers of Salt Lick; three grandchildren: Elliott Odem, Kaylee Miller, and James Watkins; two great-grandchildren: Corbin Howard and Atlas Lykins, and best friend, Garry Cantrell of Morehead, Kentucky.
Butch graduated from Morgan County High School and attended Morehead State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a deputy sheriff for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and later became an employee of the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty, retiring in 1998 as a Lieutenant.
Following retirement, he owned and operated Frankie’s Plaza Lounge in Morehead for 16 years. Butch enjoyed playing pool and softball, liked to “bet on anything,” and “did not like to lose.” He also enjoyed going to Sam’s Club every week and most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation for Butch will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Following visitation, funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday with Brother Rick Back officiating. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
