Dr. Morris Lee Norfleet

Dr. Morris Lee Norfleet, age 92, of Nancy, Kentucky passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Jean Waddle Care Center. He was born December 15, 1930 in Nancy, KY to the late Hewey Norfleet and Edna McFall Norfleet.

Morris is survived by his wife of 70 and half years, Loistene Tarter Norfleet, a son Douglas Lee Norfleet (Lora Lee) of Nancy, grandson Brandon Lee Norfleet of Nashville, TN, and granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Norfleet of Louisville, KY.

Morris made a profession of faith at the age of 14 in Bethlehem Baptist Church in Naomi, KY. He has been a faithful Christian by serving as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Morris always had a calling for mission work. He touched many lives and saw countless people led to Christ on his mission journeys to Russia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Djibouti, Brazil and Eastern Kentucky. In 2006, he received the Missionary of the Year award in Kentucky.

Morris graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1952, and began his teaching profession in Spiceland, Indiana. He then obtained his Doctorate of Philosophy from Purdue University in 1962. Dr. Norfleet served in administration and as a professor at Morehead State University for 26 years. On September 30, 1977, Dr. Morris Norfleet, was inaugurated as the eighth president of Morehead State University and served in that position until 1984.

A funeral service for Dr. Morris Lee Norfleet will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. John Piercy officiating.

Interment will be in the Norfleet Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 10:00 AM Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or Gideons International in memory of Morris Norfleet.
