Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Sandra Sampley Rogers (Mike) of Waco, Texas; two granddaughters, Rebecca Ginter (David) of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Christine Robinett (John) of Granbury, Texas; three great grandchildren, Shelby Hall (Jamie) of Morehead, Kentucky, Cameron Ginter of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Lucas Robinett of Granbury, Texas; her sister, Myrtlene Staggers Lee of Pasadena, Texas; nephew, Thomas Staggers (Joy) of Dickinson, Texas; and sister-in-law Ramona Hartsell of Montgomery, Alabama.

Marilyn graduated from Crenshaw Country High School in Highland Home, Alabama, in May 1954. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from Auburn University and earned her Master of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition from The University of Alabama.  She married Carl Ray Sampley of Montgomery, Alabama, in June 1956.  In 1961, they moved to Houston, Texas, with their two daughters; and where she worked as a Clinical Dietitian at St. Joseph’s Hospital and then as Food Service Director of the Dickinson (a suburb of Houston) Independent School District. During this time, she began working toward her doctorate in Nutrition. In August 1969, she graduated with her PhD in Foods and Nutrition at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. For the next 48 years, Dr. Sampley worked as the Department Chair of Nutrition at Radford College in Radford, Virginia, at Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University-Kingsville), University of Tennessee in Martin and at Morehead State University.

Marilyn loved her family dearly and was overjoyed to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her interests involved cooking, gardening and other activities around her home.
