Douglas Keigh Matney Obituary

Douglas Keith “Doug” Matney, age 70, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away December 20, 2020, at his residence.

 

Born March 6, 1950, in Shelby, Ohio, he was the son of the late Elbert “Linkus” Matney and Leona White Stewart Matney.

 

Doug is survived by two daughters, Melanie Allanson of Ireland and Leslie Forrest of Richmond, Virginia; one son, Travis Kelley of Cadiz, Ohio; and three siblings, James Stewart of Columbus, Ohio, Bernetta Stewart Owens and Toby Matney, both of Mansfield, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Doug was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.  He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Expert (Rifle).  He was a former employee of Westinghouse Corporation and also worked for various construction companies in Ohio. 

 

Graveside services and burial at Clearfield Cemetery were conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021, with full military honors conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

 

Donations in memory of Doug are suggested to Clay Veterans Center, 2124 Old Springville Road, Center Point, AL 35215
