Doris Wells, 78, of Lakeview Heights, Morehead, KY, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021, peacefully at St. Claire HealthCare ICU in Morehead.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart of 58 years, Mickey Wells, on February 8, 2021. Her surviving children and their spouses were the light in her life, Kelly and Shawne Wells (Pikeville, KY) and Brock and Shelly (Wells) Walter (Ashland, KY). She was known as “Nana” to 6 grandchildren: Kaylee Wells, Mason Wells, Tyler Woford, Clayton and Rachael Woford, and JB Walter. Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Shirley Chandler of Cincinnati, OH, two nieces, one nephew, and their families.
Doris was born June 20, 1942, in Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Forest and Nellie Chandler. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Chandler.
Doris completed her teaching degree at Morehead State University in 1986. She was a realtor for many years and retired from Morehead State University after 27 years as an administrative assistant. Doris loved her church, world-wide missions, her quilting group, her rose garden, and her Red Hat Society members. Her passion in life was praying for her family, friends, or anyone in need of care and love.
Doris attended Morehead Community Fellowship Church of God with her husband Mickey either for in person services or online.
She gave her life to making a difference in the world around her. Her sweet spirit will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Visitation for Mickey and Doris Wells will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead with a celebration of life for Mickey and Doris beginning at 3:00 p.m.
The celebration of life will be livestreamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 3:00 p.m.
A graveside service and interment will be planned by Wilson Home for Funerals in Manchester, Ohio, at a later date.
COVID-19 mandates including masks and social distancing will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the MSU Foundation, 150 Univ. Blvd., P. O. Box 1887, Morehead, KY 40351 or the National Kidney Foundation.
