Donald James “DJ” Sheehan, age 77, of Christy Creek Road, Morehead, a resident of Rowan County since 2017, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019, at his home.
Born January 18, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late James A. Sheehan and Frances Burnham Sheehan.
DJ is survived by his wife, Cindy Sheehan; three children, Jill Marie Bowman of Jeffersonville, KY, Michael Joseph Sheehan of Fowlerville, MI, and Colleen Ann Peters; one stepson, Jamie Barnett and wife Deanna of Greensburg, IN; three sisters and numerous friends--all will miss him greatly.
DJ was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a tool and die maker for many years in several states in the West; and a former gunsmith in Colorado. He was a member of Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126 and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed big game hunting, fishing, riding horses, and Pony Express racing.
DJ was a born-again Christian and devout member of Elliottville Baptist Church.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery in Elliottville with full military honors presented by Corbie Ellington Morehead American Legion Post 126.
Pallbearers: J. R. Watson, Dail Howard, Jamie Barnett, Bill Bolen, Rufus Williams, Rob Taylor, Stan Johnson, and Brandon Johnson.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
