Dixie Lee (Fearin) Smoot

Dixie Lee Fearin Smoot, age 81, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Ridgeway Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Owingsville with her guardian angel sister Patricia by her side.

She was born April 2, 1943, in Lewis County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Raymond Ezra Fearin and Mildred Hamm Fearin.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Corine McKee and husband George; one brother, Charles Fearin and wife Kittye; three brothers-in-law, Ed Jennings, Joe Smoot and Jesse “Tone” Smoot; and three sisters-in-law, Barbara Smoot, Billie Jean Smith and husband Dick, and Lillian Finch and husband Shirley.

Her husband of 58 years, Rawleigh “Rod” C. Smoot, whom she married January 24, 1964, preceded her in death on October 8, 2022.

Dixie is survived by one son, Ricky C. Smoot and his wife Jacqueline Johnson Smoot of Hillsboro; two very special grandchildren, Stacy Mackenzie Smoot and Jonas Patrick Smoot who could always make her smile; two sisters, Christine Jennings and Patricia Fearin, both of Flemingsburg; and one brother, Raymond Fearin, Jr. and wife Eula of Foxport.

Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Clark Smoot and wife Pat of Converse, Indiana, and Robert Smoot and wife Kathy of Jackson, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Diane Smoot of Morehead, Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. 

Dixie was a retired tobacco farmer and a former employee of U.S. Shoe Factory in Flemingsburg. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles and search a word books. But, most of all, she loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Dixie will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. 

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Hillsboro Cemetery with Pastor Rick Hackney and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating.   

Pallbearers:  David Pease, Timmy Vise, David McKee, Shawn Fearin, J.T. Rawlings, and Phillip Snow.

At Dixie’s request, a private visitation and funeral service will be held.
