Dewie E. Black, 94, of Lawrenceville, GA, a native of Rowan County, passed away on February 2, 2023.
He was born on March 5, 1928, in Sharkey, Kentucky. Out of fourteen children, he was the last surviving child of Henry and Sallie (Choate) Black.
He is survived by his three children, Chuck (Lynn) Black, Ken (Kathy) Black and Pat Black along with many nieces and nephews.
Dewie proudly served in the US Army during World War II (1946-1947). On August 23, 1947, he was married to Helen Broyles. After his service in the US Army, he started his career at Burroughs Corp as an Electrical Design Engineer and retired after 30 years in 1984.
Dewie was an avid boater and enjoyed waterskiing and spending summers on the lake at Burroughs Farms Recreational Park. Dewie was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved taking long trips across the country with his brother Gene. He also took many trips with his brother Don. He rode his Gold Wing motorcycle until he was 88 years old.
Dewie was preceded in death by his wife Helen Broyles Black, son Alvin James Black and 13 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Dr., Morehead, KY 40351. The funeral service will immediately follow with the Reverend Terry Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
