Debra Jean “Debbie” Basford Layne, age 66, of Perry Lane, in Carter County, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Debbie was born June 10, 1956, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Samuel Richard Basford and Norma Oleatha Butler Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Ray Layne, Sr., and her son, Mitchell Ray Layne, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Veronica Jean and husband Dave Puckett of Morehead; special “bonus daughter” who called her mom, Jessica Danielle and Dustin Oliver of Olive Hill; 11 grandchildren, Jordan Bowling, Matthew Layne, Lani Elswick, Joseph Puckett, Rayna Puckett, Dakota Oliver, Charlie Oliver, Rayleigh Oliver, Dustin Oliver, Jr., Aiden Oliver, and expected grandson, Zander Oliver, in December; and two great grandchildren, Lianna Bowling and Chanceton Goodan.
Other survivors include her brother, Avery Craft of Fleming County; six sisters, Sue Puckett and Junior, Bonnie Hamilton and Alex, Zourdah Howard and Doug, Hattie Little and Randy, all of Morehead and Pam Young and Bill and Lora Perkins and Jeff, all of Clearfield, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family.
Debbie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved all of her family dearly. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her loved ones, especially spending time with the grandchildren. She enjoyed her “soaps” on television and loved the outdoors sitting on the porch watching and listening to the birds. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Brother Roy Lands officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Cole, Travis Fultz, Jeff Goodan, Bryan Fraley, Stephen Bair, Dakota Oliver and Charlie Oliver.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
