David Richard Phillips, age 83, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 20, 1942, he was a son of the late Jesse Boone Phillips and Nancy Ann “Nannie” Sargent Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Phillips and Justin Phillips; and four sisters, Jean Phillips, Wanda Nickell, Anita Tucker, and Debbie Phillips. It was a glorious day when he was reunited with his parents and siblings.
Richard is survived by his devoted and loving wife of nearly 65 years, Minnie Jean Kissinger Phillips, whom he married July 14, 1961; four special daughters, Terina Phillips Rice (Jim) of Marion, North Carolina, Sonya Phillips Gregory (Rodney) of Morehead, Drema Phillips Jordan (Mark) of Mt. Sterling, and Debra Phillips of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Leslie Sherlin (Jamie), Mark Anthony Jordan II, Rachael Crouch (Justin), Lakan Arnold (Grant), and Dreama Rice (Seth); 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Richard and his wife operated Phillips Mini Home, caring for many through the years. He also worked at a factory in Cleveland, Ohio, that made bomb rings during the Vietnam War era. He was of the Christian faith.
Richard was a talented musician who could play the guitar, banjo, and mandolin and would often record his music. He especially enjoyed playing with friends at Fox Valley Campground and the Morehead Flea Market. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, flower and vegetable gardening, and canning.
He never met a stranger and was known for his kind heart and friendly spirit. Most of all, Richard loved his family, and his memory will continue to be shared with his loved ones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
