Danny Dale Cook, age 74, of Morehead, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, at UK–St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Born March 22, 1951, in Knott County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Willie Cook and Ranie Isaac Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Randall Cook and Dean Cook.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Sharlene Spencer Cook, whom he married December 29, 1973; two children, Jason Cook (Melissa Blanch) and Bridget Bowman, both of Morehead; and five special grandchildren, Madison Bowman, Tanner Bowman, Krislynn Cook, Atlee Cook, and Kasyn Cook.
Other survivors include four brothers, Glennis Cook, Ricky Cook, and Doyle Cook, all of Topmost, Kentucky, and Lowell Cook of West Liberty; three sisters, Brenda Thornsberry of Allen, Kentucky, Linda Faye Patton of Shelby, Ohio, and Priscilla Clemmons of Carlisle, Kentucky; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends.
Danny began his working years as a coal miner in Knott County before he and his family moved to Rowan County in 1979. After settling there, he helped his father-in-law, J. C. Spencer, operate Sportsman’s Paradise Store on Pretty Ridge—a gathering place where Danny made lasting friendships and countless memories. Later, he became a self-employed carpenter, using his hands and heart to build throughout Rowan County and the surrounding areas.
A true outdoorsman, Danny loved spending time in nature—whether he was turkey, coon, squirrel, or deer hunting, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods. But more than anything, he treasured time spent with his family. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Danny will be remembered for his steady presence, his easy smile, and the love and kindness he showed to everyone around him. His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy of love and laughter will live on in all those whose lives he touched.
