Daniel Wayne Tackett, age 79, born April 27, 1943, peacefully passed away at his residence in Morehead on Thursday, April 28, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. He passed in the care of St. Claire Hospice with his loving partner of 37 years, Judy Grills by his side.
He was the son of the late Wayne and Ruth Belle Tackett of Olive Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Donnie and brothers, Bill Tackett and Manuel Tackett; one sister, Freda Fout; an infant sister, Barbara Tackett; and a daughter, Kathy Ruth Stepp.
In addition to his partner Judy, Daniel is survived by a son, Danny Harold Tackett and his mother Earnestine Tackett, both of Olive Hill, one brother, Stanley Reed (Robin) Tackett of Dresden, Ohio; three sisters, Teresa (Monroe) Craig, Janet Hamm (Gary), and Pam Humphries, all of Olive Hill; seven grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren who he loved dearly.
He is also survived by Judy’s children, Billy (Kacey) Grills of Grayson and Kristy (Eric) Holman of Greenup; special friends, Matt, Mindy, Matthew Barrett and Preston; several nieces and nephews; and Judy’s seven grandchildren.
Daniel was instrumental in the formation of the Carter County Emergency Service and was a former police officer with the City of Olive Hill where he was chief for more than 10 years. After retiring he worked in telecommunications and enjoyed traveling to different states.
He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed visiting various churches. He was a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. Daniel also enjoyed camping, fishing, talking on his CB, and playing rummy with his grandson Christian (Abby) Grills. He loved watching Matt Dillon westerns with his fur buddy Buford. Daniel was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
