Connie Turner Richardson, 77, of Morehead passed into the loving arms of Jesus on August 14, 2024, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky after valiantly fighting cancer for several years. She was preceded in death by her father, Selby Ervin Turner and her mother, Melinda Margaret Turner Miller. Connie had five loving, close-knit siblings: Lana Swim (Charlie, deceased) Larry Turner (Judith, deceased), and Sandra Crisp (Estill) all of Morehead, Kentucky, Barbara Landreth (Kennard, deceased) of New Castle, Indiana and Judy Withrow (Ivan) of Findlay, Ohio. She is also survived by her three children: Willam Ryan Richardson PhD (Karen) of Rockville, Maryland, Veronica Richardson-Stivers (Bradley), and Michael Todd Richardson both of Louisville, Kentucky. She was also blessed with three grandchildren: Ronan Hugh Stivers, Willa Carrie Stivers, and Lydia Helen Richardson. She also leaves behind a devoted friend, Bob Voelkner, of Clarksville, Indiana.
Connie provided years of service to several communities in Kentucky as a Clinical Social Worker in the counties of Jefferson, Mason, Lewis, and Rowan. Furthermore, she served as Mayor of Broeck Pointe, a suburb of Louisville, while volunteering at her children’s schools. Always service oriented, Connie served on the Haldeman Community Center Board where she wrote grants and promoted fundraisers. Her life’s work always focused on supporting and nurturing youth. She coordinated summer camps, after school tutoring, and sports as well as collaborating with MSU students to teach Haldeman youth how to play guitars. In addition, Connie collaborated with community members to promote the Mason County Boys & Girls Clubs. For years, she was an integral part of Kentucky Special Olympics, which held a special place in her heart. She also supported youth by making sure foster kids of Rowan County had essential such as clothes, toiletries, and suitcases to make their difficult transitions easier. Furthermore, she worked with God’s Pantry, Christian Social Services, and Good Shepherd Ministries to provide food security to families.
Moreover, Connie’s passion was flowers, making the world a more beautiful place. She had “two” green thumbs because every flower submitted to her expertise. Churches, homes, friends, family all benefitted from her knowledge of flowers. She not only created beauty herself through gardening, but also turned so many people into passionate gardeners. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said in his definition of SUCCESS: “To leave the world a little better through a garden patch, this is to have succeeded.” Connie succeeded!
