Christine Bowling Shields

Christine Bowling Shields, age 98, of Flemingsburg, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg.

Born April 3, 1920, in Hitchens, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Pearl Tackett Bowling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Spradling, and four brothers, James, Kelly, Emerson and Clarence Bowling.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John A. Shields, who passed away August 25, 2005; three sons, Ronald, Gaylord, and Kenneth Adams; two daughters, Sue Rigdon and Kay Adams; one grandson, Tim Zornes; one granddaughter, Michelle Barnoski; and one great-grandson, Brady Fraley.

Mrs. Shields is survived by two daughters, Regina Smith and husband David Cooley of Flemingsburg and Cheryl Snipes of Morehead; one son, Mitchell Adams and wife Carolyn of Morehead; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Holland of Camden, Ohio; and Arlene Cline of Springfield, Ohio; three brothers, Wayne, Donnie, and Tommy Bowling, all of Springfield, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Christine was an incredibly strong and amazing woman whose life revolved around her family, church, and friends. Helping others was important to her and she was always kind and loving to family and friends alike. She often said, "to have a friend you must be a friend." She was a Christian and member of the Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Herbie Stallard officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Carter County.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2019, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
