Chike Powell

Chike Powell, at age 88, passed away on 14 Nov 2023 of natural causes in Morehead KY.  He was born in Syracuse, NY, 4 May 1935, but grew up on a farm near Loranger and Hammond, LA.  He was married to Thejoal Powell from August 1959 till her passing in June of 2015.

 A passionate lifelong learner, Chike obtained his B.A. Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1959, he was always in school it seemed.  His career spanned various roles, notably with Department of State, Department of Defense – Army, Central Intelligence Agency, and DBA Systems.  His work took him on adventures worldwide: Lima Peru, Monrovia Africa, Islamabad Pakistan, Bangkok Thailand and many other points of interest.  Both he and Thejoal loved to travel.  Recognized for his dedication, he was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal for Exemplary Service.

Chike found great joy in hobbies like gardening, reading, engaging in chess matches worldwide via mail, and collecting. If you knew Chike, you'd know he was into collecting just about anything.

Chike is survived by four children: Brian, Rebecca, Kevin, Kim; his Brother Jeff; Sisters Nancy and Judy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He will be reunited in spirit with his father JW; mother Dorothy; wife Thejoal; daughter Denny; and son Cliffton.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice.

Chike's remains will be honored in a private ceremony, granting his final wish to have his ashes spread on the banks of the Tangipahoa River near the farm dear to his cherished childhood memories.
