Charles Russell Whisenant, age 95, of East Highway 60, Salt Lick, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY, after a stroke he experienced one week ago.
Born July 26, 1926, in Beckley, West Virginia, and reared in Oceana, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Horace W. and Katherine Dora Kidd Whisenant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Homer Whisenant, Harold Whisenant, Max Whisenant, and Benny Joe Whisenant, and four sisters: Ruth Francis, Jean Meadows, Betty Drenan, and Nancy Nichols.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faye Adams Whisenant of Salt Lick; nephews, Gary (Ralpha) Harvey and Terry (Sandy) Harvey, both of Salt Lick; niece, Teresa (David) Arnett of Salt Lick; great nieces, Jessica Harvey and Katelyn Harvey, both of Salt Lick, and Makayla (Austin) Lewis of Mt. Sterling; and great nephew, Nathan Harvey of Salt Lick; brothers, Bobby Whisenant, Leesville, SC, Bryant (Hannah) Whisenant, Oceana, WV, David (Jean) Whisenant, Mechanicsburg, VA; sisters, Anna Faye Jarrett, Charleston, WV, and Mary Caldararo, Elkin, NC, along with a host of other nieces and nephews; other relatives, church family and friends.
Chuck was a World War II veteran, who proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps, where he was stationed in Germany, Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Panama and other locations. He was a former airplane mechanic for North American Aviation and retired as a data entry operator from Owens-Illinois Glass Manufacturer in Columbus, Ohio, in 1989 when he and Faye moved to their dream home in Kentucky. He loved to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables, mow, hunt and fish. Chuck loved and served the Lord with all of his heart. He and Faye were faithful members of the Sharkey Baptist Church.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating. The service will be live streamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery in Salt Lick with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers: Gary Harvey, David Arnett, Austin Lewis, Elijah Sexton, James Isaac and Ben Lewis.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
