Carl Clinton Sparkman, age 93, of Mabry Drive, Morehead, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
He was born March 28, 1927, in Rowan County, and was a son of the late Virgil “Tom” and Martha Butcher Sparkman. In addition to his parents, his wife of 70 years, Hazel Katherine Kidd Sparkman, preceded in him death on September 2, 2020; one brother, Garred Sparkman; and one sister, Joyce Peluso.
Mr. Sparkman is survived by a son, Jerry Sparkman of Morehead; a daughter, Sherri Wilson and husband Randy of Morehead; two grandchildren, Miranda Wilson and Brian Wilson and wife Brandi; four great grandchildren, Josey Ferguson, Mallory Wilson, Abner Wilson, and Caroline Wilson; two sisters, Judy Leasure of Danville and Hazel Stidom of Florida; a sister-in-law, Sharon Sparkman of Clearfield; special caregiver, Helen Griggs of Morehead; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved Shih Tzu grand-dog, Belle; and other extended family members, including his church family, and many friends.
Carl served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a retired truck driver for Smith Transfer in Louisville and a retired bus driver for the Rowan County School system. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Sharkey Baptist Church for more than 20 years. Carl loved church and was always early to every service.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Sharkey Baptist Church with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr., Pastor Elijah Sexton, and Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. For those who prefer to participate virtually, the service will be live streamed on Sharkey Free Will Baptist Church Facebook page and Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 2 p.m. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers: Jack Lewis, Forrest Cooper, Mike Sublett, Bobby Dyer, Brian Wilson, Bryce Ferguson, and Herb Hyatt. Honorary pallbearers: Jerry Sparkman, Randy Wilson, Roger Davis, Tom Lewis, and Jim Tom Caudill.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until the service at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Sharkey Baptist Church, 2555 Sharkey Road, Morehead, KY 40351.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Sharkey Baptist Church.
