Capt. Billy C. Evans, age 89, of Clearfield, KY, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023, at his home.
Born July 3, 1934, in Kenova, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Curtis Evans and Daisy McKenzie Evans. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lee Evans and Joe Evans and his beloved daughter, Sue Ann Evans.
Capt. Billy C. is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Carmileta Rigsby Evans, whom he wed August 13, 1957; two sons, Walter “Woody” Evans and Traci of Stanford and Billy Lee “Huey” Evans and Lisa of Morehead; one sister, Rosemary Robinson and Jim of Morehead; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; extended family; and friends.
Capt. Billy C. was a proud veteran after serving 20 years in both the U.S. Navy and retiring from the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War and Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal 2/5 Serv Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Bronze Star Medal. Following his military service, he was a tug boat captain for many years, retiring in 1995.
Throughout his life, Capt. Billy C. contributed to organizations and participated in activities that supported his country and good causes. He especially enjoyed the benevolent works of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and American Legion. He honorably served on the American Legion Honor Guard for many years.
Capt. Billy C. treasured his family and will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Hall and Corbie Ellington Morehead American Legion Post 126 officiating. Burial will follow in the Baldridge-Rigsby-Buckner Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Masonic services to be presented at 7:30 p.m.by Salt Lick Masonic Lodge No. 682.
