Bonnie Wood Obituary

Bonnie T. Wood, age 81, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Born April 14, 1944, in Elliottville, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Ruben and Sybrina Sparks Thomas. In addition to her beloved parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John Carl Thomas, Emma Lee Smith, Edith Chadwell, Ruby Elam, Claudie Thomas, Vinda Moore, Mary Jane Kidd, Madge Elliott, Clayton Thomas, and Bertha Sue Hardin; two grandsons, David Joshua Stegall and Calvin Michael Reynolds; and two nephews, Collin Trent Thomas and Edward Earhart, who lost their lives while fighting for our country.

Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Angela Jo Stegall (Tim), Sarah Jane Lykins (Gary), Jeanette Elaine Knepp, Donna Gail Conlee (Gary), Rebecca Lynn Cassity (Walter), and Chelsea Fultz; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, James E. Thomas and Clyde A. Thomas (Charlotte); several nieces and nephews; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.

Bonnie was a loving and compassionate nurse who was recognized by the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels for her work with the elderly. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and a gifted storyteller, a talent she loved sharing with her children and grandchildren.

Bonnie was most alive near the water. She lived by the tides and found her greatest peace fishing and snorkeling in Tampa Bay and the Cayman Islands with the love of her life, Churchill Wood. As a storyteller, she didn’t just tell stories—she wore them with laughter, wisdom, and a touch of mischief. Her tales will be deeply missed, but the stories she passed down will live on through her family.
