Ben V. Flora Jr., a beloved math professor and longtime resident of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2026, at the age of 89, with his loving wife by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben V. Flora Sr. and Dixie “Irene” Rogers, and his brother, Roger Flora and sister Marie Babin. He is survived by his sister, Linda Salazar; his devoted wife, Marjorie R. Flora; his children, Derek (Terri) Flora, Vivian (Steve) Cyrus, Keith (Suellen) Flora, and Jeff (Andrea) Flora; and his cherished grandchildren, Tara (Joe Salvador) Flora, Clay (McKella) Cyrus, Alana (Patrick) Wall, Cecily Larkin, Morgan (Sterling) Briggs, Tanner Flora, Ben Flora, Ashlee Flora, Kelsey Cyrus, Jon Flora, and Caitlin Flora.

Born March 27, 1937, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Dr. Flora graduated from Bellevue High School and pursued an extensive academic career. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Education from George Peabody College, a Master of Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Flora dedicated his professional life to education. He began his career as a coach and teacher before serving as a Professor of Mathematics at Morehead State University for 27 years. Throughout his career, he was recognized for his commitment to academic excellence and his lasting impact on his students.

On June 10, 1961, he married Marjorie R. Hill, his college sweetheart and a fellow educator. Their enduring marriage was marked by devotion to family, education, and community.

Dr. Flora will be remembered with respect and affection by his family, colleagues, former students, and all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Cave Run Methodist Church, 240 Morehead, Plaza, Morehead, KY 40351
