Anthony “Butch” Edward Barnette, age 73, of Weaver Ridge, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2026, at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
Born October 9, 1952, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Hubert Clinton Barnette and Judith Ann Hojara. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clinton Barnette.
He is survived by his stepmother, Lilly Naomi Barker Barnette; two sons, Steven Barnette and Tony Barnette, both of Morehead; and four grandchildren, Whitley Nicole Barnette, Kaden Shane Barnette, Paisleigh Ann-Marie Barnette, and Aaron Edward Barnette.
Other survivors include four brothers, Travis Payne Barnette of Iowa, Brent Damon Barnette of Morehead, Dwight Douglas Barnette of New Salisbury, Indiana, and Vincent Jerome Barnette of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
Butch was a semi-truck driver and a former employee of South Lake Welding in Hebron, Indiana, where he worked as a welder and highwall driller. He enjoyed working on cars and was known as the “ultimate shade tree mechanic.” He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver.
At his request, visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
