Allya Matthews Jones, age 98, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Windsor Care Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling.
She was born August 9, 1926, in Bath County, and was a daughter of the late Daugherty Matthews and Julia Mae Brown Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Johnnie Jones; one son, Billy Bruce Jones; one brother, John Alexander Matthews; and five sisters, Glenna McQuithy, Elizabeth Thomas, Dorothy Curry Thomas, Katherine Call, and Wilma Newton.
Mrs. Jones is survived by one son, Larry W. Jones (Sandy) of Winchester; one daughter, Patricia Jones Sorrell of Mt. Sterling; five grandchildren, Elgena Jones, Elisha Jones, Chuck Sorrell (Tracy), Crystal Amburgey (Byron), and Stephanie Wengert (Brandon); three great grandchildren, Lacey Sorrell, Kaitlyn Sorrell, and Beth Poer; and other extended family and friends.
She retired after 44 years of dedicated service for Jockey International in Mt. Sterling and was a former door greeter for 18 years at Walmart. Allya was of the Christian faith and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Camargo Church of God with Aaron Conn officiating. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery in Bethel, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Byron Amburgey, Joe Harris, Chuck Sorrell, and Brandon Wengert.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Camargo Church of God, 4322 Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.
