Albert A. “Ab” Ishmael, Sr., age 77, of Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1943, in Fleming County, and was the son of the late Curtis Ishmael and Louise Glascock Ishmael. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William “Pretty” Ishmael.
His wife of 47 years, Neva Hamilton Ishmael, whom he married October 9, 1963, also preceded him in death on January 3, 2011.
“Ab” is survived by one son, Albert “Hookie” Ishmael, Jr., and wife Fonda; one daughter, Barbara “Puddin” Ishmael Mercer and fiancé Mike Hunt, all of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Ryan Ishmael, Andrew Ishmael, Brittany Ishmael, and Brandon Mercer; and seven great grandchildren.
Other survivors include one brother, Donnie Ray Ishmael of Hillsboro; two sisters, Ruth Ann Harmon of Flemingsburg, and Barbara Daily of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews; his auction family; and many friends.
At a young age, Mr. Ishmael began farming in the early 60’s at the Hart Farm and later began working for the City of Flemingsburg in the utility department. For many years, he worked for several gas distribution companies including Chevron, Ashland Oil, and Ferrell Gas. He was also the co-owner of J & A Transport Company and managed Rolling Hills Pay Lake.
In 1999 he and Neva became the founders and owners of the Hillsboro Auction House. Always very active in the business, just a week ago “Ab” was at the auction house helping “Hookie.” “Ab” enjoyed life and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a former member of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department and was of the Christian faith.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Willie Skaggs, Jr., Sister Gail Skaggs, and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers: David Hamilton, Bobby Hamilton, Jeff Dailey, Scott Mercer, Jack Mahone, Dick Goldy, O’Brien Ferguson, and Marty McCarty. Honorary pallbearers: Members of the Hillsboro Fire Department.
Visitation will be from 5 p. m. to 9 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2020, at Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
