Zane Michael Gray

Zane Michael Gray, age 73, of KY Hwy 173, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at UK St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

He was born October 31, 1952, in West Liberty, Kentucky. He was the youngest son of the late Byrd Gray and Bertha Horton Gray. Also preceding him in death were his brother Larry Gray, sister Joyce Gray Vansant (Eddie), and his son-in-law Mark Duncan.

Zane is survived by his daughter Sherry Lynn Gray Duncan of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, son Alexander Byrd Gray (Kayla) of Morehead, Kentucky, and Cassie Marie Gray Levesque (Jeremy) of Hartford, Connecticut. Also, his six grandchildren William Duncan, Addisyn Gray, Braxton Gray, Maggie Gray, Colton Levesque, and Hudson Levesque. As well as one brother Maurice Gray (Barbara) of Hickory, North Carolina, sister-in-law Diane Gray of Morehead, Kentucky, nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Zane spent most of his life doing construction work. In between working construction jobs, he worked around 14 years at the previous Laughlin Building at Morehead State University. He last worked for Frederick and May Construction Company until 1996.

Family was most important to him. He enjoyed being a Dad and Papaw in every way. He also enjoyed motorcycles and living life to the fullest in his earlier years. He leaves behind memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

A graveside service honoring Zane’s life will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Gray Cemetery on Fraley Ridge in Elliott County, Kentucky. Pastor Brad Winkleman of the Lytten Apostolic Church will be officiating the service.
