Winfred Vaughn McCarty, age 82, of Mabry Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born January 30, 1925, in Bath County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Morris E. and Grace Armstrong McCarty. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Carrington McCarty, on March 17, 2006. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Anna Louise Blevins McCarty, whom he married January 23, 1946; and one sister, Nancy Reffitt, of Morehead, Kentucky. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS California. Winfred worked at McCarty Garage, a family owned business, in Salt Lick, Kentucky, and was a former employee of Russell Perry-s Hardware in Morehead and Cheap-s Chevrolet in Flemingsburg. He was a machine mechanic and electrician at Cowden Manufacturing and Big Yank for 26 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and 50-year member of Salt Lick Masonic Lodge No. 682. He was a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God, where he was board member, bus driver, usher, and member of the choir and men-s group. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gary McQuain and the Rev. Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery in Midland with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Porter, Ronnie Smedley, Mac Moore, Deron Moore, Warren Moore, Ted Blevins, Dennis Blevins, Robert Thiess, Roger Thiess, Paul Moore, Doug Lee, and Roger Grace.
