Willie Deleno Skaggs, Sr., age 79, of Story Branch Road, Hillsboro, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at his residence. Born November 22, 1936, in Elliott County, he was the son of Elijah and Mae Kinster Skaggs. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Norwood Skaggs. Willie is survived by his wife, Ivis Pauline Wagoner Skaggs, whom he married August 31, 1957; three children, James and Alichia Skaggs, Linda and Wendell McCarty, and Willie Jr. and Nell Skaggs, all of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Krissy and Jeremiah Logan, J. C. and April Skaggs, Neil McCarty, Brent and Jessica McCarty, Carla Richmond, Justin McCarty, Jessi and Jason Gulley, Jordan and Amanda Skaggs; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Other survivors include seven brothers and sisters, Joe and Opal Skaggs, Wonedia Flannery, Waldo and Yvonne Skaggs, Marge Hawes, and Arvetta Adkins, all of Elliott County, Helen and Al Williams of North Carolina and Lois and Roy Machen of Augusta, Kentucky; other relatives and many friends. Willie was a lifelong farmer and former construction worker. He became a charter member of the Lower Rock Lick Enterprise Baptist Church in 1980 and also served as a deacon. Willie enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Hutton Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Skaggs and Bro. Herbie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be J. C. Skaggs, Jordan Skaggs, Justin McCarty, Jeremiah Logan, Jason Gulley, Brent McCarty, and Neil McCarty.
