Willie Lee Pennington, age 90, of Sharkey Road, Morehead, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his residence.
He was born September 3, 1934, in Elliott County, the son of the late R.C. Pennington and Nannie Adkins Pennington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ishmel R. Pennington; two sisters, Evalena McClain and husband Billy and Geneva Martin; and two nephews, Paul S. Pennington and Scott McClain.
Willie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Garnetta Dickerson Pennington, whom he married on August 31, 1968. Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Jenny Pennington of Sharkey; two grandchildren, Bailee Pennington Anderson (and husband Dr. Ryan Anderson) of Winchester, and Macee Pennington (and fiancé Dawson Elam); one great-granddaughter, Alice Anderson.
Additional survivors include nephews, Darrell Martin (and wife Rhonda) of Sharkey, and William Bev McClain (and wife Dr. Cheryl McClain) of Versailles, one niece, Mona McClain of Morehead, along with extended family and many dear friends.
Willie was a U.S. Army veteran and proudly served his country. He retired after more than 31 years as a bus driver for the Rowan County Board of Education and was a life-long dairy and beef farmer. A dedicated member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church, he enjoyed being active in church life. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially his granddaughters.
Willie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Adam Cooper officiating. Immediately following the service, Morehead American Legion Post 126 will present full military honors at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
