William Andrew -Jack- McKenzie, age 90, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away at his home on Monday, July 25, 2011, with family by his side. Born December 26, 1920, at Cogswell, Kentucky, in Rowan County, he was one of eight children of William Baldwin McKenzie and Jessie Mae Alfrey McKenzie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Aileen Moorefield and Gladys -Dottie- Walker; one brother, Robert McKenzie; and one granddaughter, Jessie MacGowan. Jack-s wife of 59 years, Garnet Josephine Burley McKenzie, preceded him in death on February 10, 2008. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah L. and Rocky Howard of Sabina, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Carol McKenzie of Monroe, Ohio; four grandchildren, Christina Combs, of Dayton, Ohio, Branham and Leah McKenzie of Monroe, Ohio, Julian MacGowan of Apopka, Florida; and one great grandchild, Alexis Combs. Other survivors include two brothers, Haskell Burl McKenzie of Corbin, Kentucky, and James Gary McKenzie of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Lucille Wilhoit of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Betty Busby of Morehead, Kentucky; as well as several nieces and nephews. William was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jack served in World War II as a flight mechanic/belly gunner and flew on 50 missions. He also served in the Korean War. He retired after 20 years as a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. Upon retirement from the USAF, he worked for and retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio. William was an avid bowler and pool shooter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Guy McKenzie and Rev. Mike Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Rocky Howard, Randy Schwertfager, Julian MacGowan, F. M. Hall, Branham McKenzie, Michael Schwertfager, and Andrew McKinney. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Hospice.
