Obituary

William Joseph Harr, 68, of Yuba City, California, a native of Rowan County, passed away on November 21, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Yuber-Sutter area for 20 years and a former resident of the Gridley area for 20 years. Born May 12, 1945, in Morehead, Kentucky, Billy Joe was a son of the late Emery and Thelma Scaggs Harr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francis, and four brothers, Richard, Randy, Michael and Vernon. He is survived by two sons, Thomas (Kasey) Harr of Live Oak, California, and Rodney (Becky) Harr of Gridley, California; a sister, Sue Harr of Morehead; four brothers, Dennis (Helen) Harr of Stryker, Ohio, Paul Harr of Bryan, Ohio, Daniel (Linda) Harr of Stuart, Florida, and Harold (Terry) Harr of Hobe Sound, Florida; six grandchildren, Kera, Telu, Austin, Brenden, Nathaniel, and Thomas; Goddaughter, Denis Morones of San Mateo, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill served in the U. S. Navy from 1962 thru 1968. After his military service, he worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Torrance, California, as an airframe machinist. In 1974 he moved his family to Gridley, California, and went to work for Libby/Tri-Valley Growers as an electrician. After the closing of the Gridley plant, he took a year off and then went to work for Pacific Coast Producers in Woodland, California, until his retirement in November of 2013. Bill was involved in the community for several decades as a volunteer fireman for Gridley Fire Department and later for the Walton Fire District in Yuba City, California. He also served as a reserve police officer for the Gridley Police Department. He is a past president of the Gridley Lions Club and coached Little League for many years. His hobbies included elk and deer hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Scaggs-Harr Cemetery on Oak Grove Road, Morehead, with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead is caring for local arrangements.
