Obituary

William Allen Thompson, 77, Morehead, was called home to meet the Lord on March 2, 2008, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother in Christ to family members who adored him. He was born in Carter County, Kentucky, on May 29, 1930, to the late John C. and Bertha Brown Thompson. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, James Thompson, Melvin Thompson, and Irvin Waltz; six sisters, Amanda Lou Ingram, Rosie Fultz, Sophie King, Charity Fultz, Blanche Grimsley and Hildreth Waltz. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Aileen Deloris Richards Thompson, whom he married on December 30, 1950; one daughter, Suzanne Ross (Randy) of Morehead; three sons, Greg Thompson (Barb) of Morehead, Daryl Thompson of West Liberty, and Randy Thompson (Cindy) of Hillsboro. He dearly loved his church family and loved serving God. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 reaching the rank of Corporal. As a cook, he gained culinary skills that he utilized many times over with his specialty dishes that he served his family. -Al- owned and operated Thompson Glass Company for 25 years. He had learned his trade as a professional glazier when he left home as a teenager to work in Columbus, Ohio, with his brother Melvin. This had become necessary so he could help support his family when his father fell ill and was unable to work. Before opening Thompson Glass, Al worked as a contract manager for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company and for Ohio Plate Glass. Over the years, all three sons, a son-in-law, and several nephews worked alongside of him in the family business. He took pride in his work but especially took pride in setting the example of how an honest businessman conducts his work and life.
