Wilburn Ray Smedley, age 81, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Born September 26, 1928, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of Melvin and Rebecca Frances Ginter Smedley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Smedley and Fred Smedley; daughter-in-law, Donna Jean Hatton Smedley; and son-in-law, Jack Lee Barber. Wilburn is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Louise Grimshaw Smedley; four sons, Ronald Ray Smedley and wife Tamme, Michael Lee Smedley, Steven Claude Smedley and wife Jackye, all of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Timothy Dean Smedley of West Liberty, Kentucky; two daughters, Susan Kay Wilson and husband Doug of Hickory, North Carolina, and Brenda Louise Miles and husband Robert of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Virgie Torrey of Livonia, Michigan; 25 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. For many years, Wilburn owned and operated Lakeview Garage in Clearfield and was a former school bus driver for Rowan County schools. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain and the Rev. Cecil Ison officiating. Burial will follow in the New Smedley Cemetery on Dry Creek Road in Clearfield. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
