Obituary

Wanda Crain Vice, Ed.D., peacefully passed away on January 4, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Fleming County, Kentucky, on July 3, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Allie Turner Crain and Arnold A. Crain.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Kelly Vice; her daughter, Winnetta "Winnie" Sewell; and granddaughter, Kellie Ann Hall (daughter of Winnetta and Charles R. Hall).

She will be remembered for her dedication to education, her love for family, and her unwavering kindness.

Wanda retired from the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative in Hazard, Kentucky. During her distinguished career as an educator, she served Fleming County Schools and held positions at Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, and Burris Laboratory School at Ball State University. Regionally, she contributed to the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation and the Kentucky Innovative Development Center.

Wanda received her B. A. Degree in Political Science from Morehead State University, the M. A. Degree from University of Kentucky, and the Ed.D. from Peabody College (now Vanderbilt University).

Wanda leaves behind a loving family including her grandchildren: Shaun and Krista Sewell and Kyle and Amber Sewell. She was also fondly remembered by Felicia Sewell, former spouse of grandson Kyle, and Jim Sewell, former spouse of daughter Winnetta and father of Shaun and Kyle.

Additional loved ones include great-grandchildren: Austin Jackson (Rosa & baby Alanna), Alexis Ann Sewell (Bryan), Allie Grace Sewell (Javaris & Carson), Veda Kate Sewell, Riley Neill, and Jaxson Neill; as well as extended family including Crain and Vice nieces and nephews.

Other loved ones who preceded her in death included her siblings, Charlotte Crain Jolly (Herbert) and Alvis Wendell Crain (Mary Lloyd), and a nephew: Gerald Ray Crain (Vietnam Veteran)

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Connie, Liz, and Pam, whose devotion, care, and friendship made it possible for Wanda to remain in her home and live independently, surrounded by dignity, comfort, and love!

A Celebration of Life for Wanda Crain Vice will be Saturday, January 10, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. at Lowe Lake, 5560 Wallingford Road, Flemingsburg, 41041.

Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
